About us at Wenning Lodge

Wenning Lodge Bentham was founded 18th January 1923 by 15 local founding members. It was at this time that this group of landowners, businessmen, shopkeepers and a Police officer who were Freemasons in the North West already, decided to form their own Lodge.

2023 is a very special year for Bentham´s Freemasons as we celebrate the centenary of the Lodge, situated at the Masonic Hall, a Grade II listed building in Station Road in Bentham.

With currently 32 members aged between their late 30´s and late 80´s, some of them in 2nd or third generation, our local Freemasons come from all walks of life, professions and background and with 100 years to look back on, Freemasonry has always been a historical and integral part of Bentham community history.

Charitable giving and kindness are deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry and Wenning Lodge donated over £60,000 over the last 20 years alone to various local charitable causes and organisations in the Craven district such as Bentham Food Bank, Bentham Playing Field, St. John the Baptist Parish Church,  Friends of Tatham School, Bentham Primary School, the Air Ambulance and many many more.

3 good reasons to join Freemasonry and Wenning Lodge:

Make New Friends

From the Universities Scheme and New and Young Masons Clubs, to special interest Lodges, Freemasonry gives members many opportunities to make a wide circle of friends for life.
Finding bonds with people who share common interests and meeting people from all different backgrounds are just some of the ways Freemasonry can help cultivate lasting friendships.

You want to develop yourself

Freemasonry is all about building character and supporting members as individuals. It’s these foundations that allow members to develop themselves, from increased self-confidence to transferable skills such as public speaking.

You want to make a contribution

Whether taking part in social events or fundraising, charity is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions to deserving causes and it’s because of this we’re recognised as one of the largest charitable givers in the country, contributing £51.1m to deserving causes in 2020.
